Sharon Dowsett
Flute, piccolo and alto flute
I graduated with a first class honours degree in music from Kings College London in 2001, where I specialised in performance, historical performance practice, musical analysis and techniques of composition. My flute studies were enhanced with lessons and workshops from Kate Hill at the Royal Academy of Music where I was also fortunate enough to be inspired by masterclasses with William Bennett. I have enjoyed performing for renowned flute professors including Peter Lloyd, Jaime Martin, Wissam Boustany and Ian Clarke.
My passion for flute performance led me to continue my studies, first an MA at Birmingham Conservatoire where I was awarded the postgraduate prize, then an MMus at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (RSAMD). It was here that I first began working with the talented guitarist Adele Neilson, a relationship that has gone from strength to strength. Our concert performances have been well received all around Scotland, and we have also made recordings and broadcast live on radio.
As an orchestral player, I have performed at St John's Smith Square and the Royal Courts of Justice in London, the Usher Hall Edinburgh, Glasgow's City Hall and Birmingham's Symphony Hall on flute, piccolo and alto flute. Highlights of my career include the performance of Mozart's Flute Concerto at a concert recorded for BBC Radio 3. I continue to perform both orchestrally and as a soloist, most recently with the Scottish National Wind Orchestra, and the acclaimed Amicus Orchestra.
